Why I'm Going All-In on AI Agents for E-commerce
Most e-commerce brands are using AI wrong.
They add a chatbot to their site, plug ChatGPT into their content workflow, and call it innovation. That’s not what I’m talking about when I say “AI agents.”
An agent is a system that can take a goal, break it down into steps, and execute. It doesn’t just answer questions. It does work.
What agents actually do
Here’s a concrete example. I built a research agent for a DTC furniture brand. Every morning, it:
- Scans competitor product pages for new launches and price changes
- Pulls the latest customer reviews from their own site and Amazon
- Summarizes what customers are complaining about
- Flags any emerging trends in the category
That used to take a marketing coordinator 4-5 hours per week. Now it runs automatically every day and produces better output because it doesn’t get tired or skip steps.
The real shift
The value of marketing is shifting from execution to system design. If you can build the right systems, you can produce 10x more output with the same team.
That’s what I’m focused on now. Not replacing people, but giving each person on a team their own agent that handles the repetitive work so they can focus on decisions, strategy, and creative thinking.
What’s next
I’ll be sharing more about the specific agents I’m building and what’s working. If you’re running an e-commerce brand and curious about this, reach out. I’m always happy to talk about what might work for your situation.
